MyBB 2.0 will be the next major version of MyBB following the release of MyBB 1.8. It is currently in the planning stages, and development will begin soon. There is no estimated release date for MyBB 2.0 at this time.

Confirmed Features

Information regarding MyBB 2.0 is scarce; however, some information has been released concerning features, core changes, user interface improvements, etc.

Core Changes

  • Yii will be used as the framework
  • Twig will be used as the template engine
  • jQuery will be used as the main JavaScript library
  • An API will be made available to provide better integration with third-party systems

New Features/Changes

  • Improved SEO-friendly URLs
  • Threaded mode will be removed
  • Conversation (threaded) PMs
  • Mobile functionality

  • Brand new default theme
    • CSS-based buttons
  • Improved user control panel
